Derecho de Nacimiento (Birthright)
An original choreography by Alfonso Meraza that explores the modern-day Adelita. Throughout the piece, there is imagery of being silenced, blinded, and divided to be controlled by Machismo. The dance is set to “Un Derecho de Nacimiento” by Natalia Lafourcade, capturing the struggle and resilience of women against societal constraints.
Hey Pachuco!
Choreographed by Alfonso Meraza and Jose Rosales, “Hey Pachuco” is inspired by the zoot suit movement and brings the spirited and defiant essence of this cultural phenomenon to the stage. Through dynamic choreography and period-accurate costumes, this dance vividly portrays the pride, identity, and resistance of the Pachuco culture. The piece pulsates with energy and attitude, reflecting a pivotal era in Mexican-American history.
